Following their big win in their first game of the season last night, the Hobart Hurricanes travel to Melbourne to take on the Melbourne Stars tomorrow evening.
After a tight finish against the Sydney Thunder, the Hurricanes raised their BBL|14 Championship banner in style on an important night for the wider organisationn.
Bowling first after Captain Nathan Ellis won the toss, Billy Stanlake returned to Big Bash action with two early wickets before English all-rounder Chris Jordan chipped in with two more as the Hurricanes restricted the Thunder to 6-181.
Starting BBL|15 just as he finished BBL|14, Mitch Owen (32 off 14) dominated the Thunder bowlers early on and was well supported by Nikhil Chaudhary (41 off 31) and Ben McDermott (38 off 24).
Matthew Wade (25 off 16) and Chris Jordan (16* off 13) helped guide the Hurricanes home, as they scored the winning runs with one ball to spare.
Tomorrow night’s squad features just one change from the Thunder match, with pace bowler Jackson Bird replacing Mac Wright in the travelling 14-man squad
Jake Weatherald and Beau Webster remain unavailable due to Ashes commitments but are expected to return after the fifth Test.
