The Hobart Hurricanes have locked in six members of their WBBL championship-winning squad for the next two seasons, securing a significant core of the playing group through to 2028.
Molly Strano, Nicola Carey, Heather Graham, Hayley Silver-Holmes, Rachel Trenaman and Lizelle Lee have all extended their deals to remain in purple.
All six players are now contracted to the Hurricanes for WBBL|12 and WBBL|13, providing significant continuity as the club looks to build on its breakthrough championship success.
They all played important roles during last season’s title-winning campaign, bringing a combination of international experience, proven WBBL performance and emerging talent to the Hurricanes squad.
Lee has established herself as one of the WBBL’s most destructive batters at the top of the order, finishing as the side’s second-leading run scorer last season with 305 runs at an average of 38.1 and a competition-leading strike-rate of 154.8.
Strano remains one of the competition’s most accomplished spin bowlers, Graham was Hobart’s leading wicket taker (16 at 18.4) while all-rounder Carey provides quality with both bat and ball.
Trenaman and Silver-Holmes have also continued to develop into important members of the Hurricanes squad.
“Very easy decision, I’ve been here a few years now, absolutely loved my time and off the back of last year, it would be hard to not return,” Carey said.
“It is such a good organisation to be a part of. I’ve been here for over half my WBBL career and I have loved it. It’s been a really fun journey from the first year I was here to where we are now.
“We’ve had a core group together for a long time now, and it’s a really fun team to be part of.”
The recommitments provide the Hurricanes with a strong foundation heading into WBBL|12, with much of the group responsible for delivering the club’s maiden WBBL championship set to remain together.
Hobart Hurricanes Head Coach Jude Coleman said retaining the championship-winning core was an important part of the club’s plans for sustained success.
“We’re really happy to keep the core group of local players together, it was our goal straight away last year when they were off contract to stay,” Coleman said.
“It really is a testament to the organisation and a lot of the girls, if you spoke to them, would talk about how much they love this organisation and how much they love playing for the Hurricanes.
“It’s a massive win, they definitely were in demand but they also just love playing together.”
The Hurricanes will begin their WBBL|12 title defence against the Melbourne Stars on October 29.
