Hurricanes are set to return to Launceston in BBL16

In exciting news for fans of cricket in Tasmania's North, the Hobart Hurricanes are set to return to Launceston after two seasons away. Launceston was a regular feature for the team and the Hobart Hurricanes are excited to be returning for a home game in BBL16.

The fixture will see Big Bash League cricket return to the north of the state, and provide the Hobart Hurricanes an opportunity to connect with fans and the community in the north in their own backyard.

"We are excited to be back in the north of the state for BBL16. We will be bringing the full show to town and we want to see cricket and sports fans turn out in their thousands to prove that we should continue to prioritise a game here every year."

"The average crowd at Ninja Stadium is 10,000 and we expect the north can out do that given the potential schedule for this match" said Cricket Tasmania Chief Executive Officer, Dominic Baker.

The Hobart Hurricanes are looking to connect with the community in the north over the next 6 months with the organisation looking to offer a number of opportunities to be involved in the lead up to the Launceston match.

This will be the first time the Hurricanes have played at UTAS Stadium since the 2023 - 24 season with the date of the match to be announced alongside the final BBL16 Schedule.

"We're delighted to welcome Cricket Tasmania and the Big Bash league back to UTAS Stadium, bringing elite cricket to fans in northern Tasmania and reinforcing the venue's reputation as a destination for major sporting and entertainment events." said James Avery, Chief Executive Officer of Stadiums Tasmania.

Hobart Hurricanes Memberships for WBBL12 and BBL16 go on sale Thursday 9th July with the full BBL16 schedule to be release in the next few weeks. Big Bash League tickets will go on sale in August.
