Hobart Hurricanes Squad Release vs Sydney Thunder

After much speculation, the Hobart Hurricanes' first WBBL|11 squad can now be confirmed ahead of their opening match of the summer.

WBBL Content Day has wrapped up, final training sessions in Tasmania have concluded, and it’s finally time to see what the Hurricanes have in store for this year’s tournament.

Taking on the always-talented Sydney Thunder at a neutral venue will be a tough ask for their first game, but the Hurricanes will be excited by the prospect of taking points off a Thunder team that beat them in the finals in WBBL|10.

Making their debuts for the Hobart Hurricanes, if selected, will be English superstars Nat Sciver-Brunt and Linsey Smith, who will be presented with Hurricanes WBBL cap numbers #60 and #61.

Selected in the Hurricanes squad is exciting young pace bowler Callie Wilson, who tore through the Heat twice in the Spring Challenge, taking three wickets in both matches.

Also returning to potentially play her first WBBL game since WBBL|08 (three years ago) is Rachel Trenaman, who has been in terrific form for the Tasmanian Tigers in the WNCL and in matches for Australia 'A'.

Tasmanian fans will also be buoyed by the return of Heather Graham and Molly Strano, who, while no longer part of the Tasmanian domestic setup, are still playing in purple this WBBL|11.

Kathryn Bryce, while not selected in the 13-player squad, will travel with the team as an Associate player and as cover for any Overseas Player.

Unavailable for this match due to injury is talented leg-spinning all-rounder Amy Smith, who is recovering from an injury that will see her miss the majority of WBBL|11. The Hurricanes are hopeful she will return for the final couple of matches before finals.

Tomorrow night’s match starts at 5.10 pm AEDT in Brisbane at Allan Border Field.

The Hobart Hurricanes first WBBL|11 squad is as follows:

  • Nic Carey

  • Ruth Johnston

  • Lauren Smith
