The Hobart Hurricanes have confirmed their final squad member for WBBL|11, signing Scottish Associate Player Kathryn Bryce to round out their list.
Bryce, who performed brilliantly for the Hurricanes in WBBL|10, will be looking to continue her strong all-round contributions for the ‘Cane Train this summer when called upon.
She’s excited to continue her T20 career in purple. “I'm really excited to be back again with the Hobart Hurricanes this WBBL!
“It’s an absolutely fantastic group to be part of, to be around and to learn off, so I’m really delighted to be to be back among the mix and hope to see some great performances from lots of different people throughout the competition and see where this group can go,” said Bryce.
Across 10 games for the Hurricanes last season, Bryce scored 86 runs in seven innings, including a crucial 34* not out in Perth to help Hobart secure a must-win match and qualify for the WBBL Finals.
She also played a key role with the ball, often bowling in the powerplay and building pressure that allowed her teammates to take wickets.
Bryce’s international form for Scotland has been outstanding. In 49 matches for her country, she has scored 1,273 runs at an average of 37.44 and helped Scotland qualify for consecutive T20 and ODI World Cups.
Hobart Hurricanes Head Coach Jude Coleman is thrilled to welcome the Scottish all-rounder back into the squad for WBBL|11. “We’re really pleased to have ‘Brycey’ back around the Hurricanes program this summer, she was impressive for us in last season’s WBBL with both bat and ball.
“She takes wickets with her big in-swingers, can score runs at a solid rate when needed, and most importantly is a terrific teammate who consistently sets a great example for the rest of the squad.
“It’s a little disappointing for her that the Big Bash Associate rule has changed, meaning she now needs to be selected as an overseas player, but if one of our English players becomes unavailable, I have no doubt she’ll step in and perform for us,” stated Bryce.
Kathryn Bryce joins Nicola Carey, Heather Graham, Ruth Johnston, Lizelle Lee, Isa Malgiglio, Nat Sciver-Brunt (O/S), Hayley Silver-Holmes, Amy Smith, Lauren Smith, Linsey Smith (O/S), Molly Strano, Rachel Trenaman, Elyse Villani, Callie Wilson, and Danni Wyatt-Hodge (O/S) as Hurricanes players contracted for WBBL|11.
Memberships and tickets for Hobart Hurricanes WBBL|11 matches are on sale now.
The Hurricanes open their season this Sunday in Brisbane against the Heat, with the match starting at 5:10 pm Tasmanian time.
