Following last year’s first-ever Top End T20 in Darwin, the Hobart Hurricanes Academy can confirm its 14-man squad for the 2025 iteration of the T20 tournament.
Several Hobart Hurricanes contracted players, along with players from within Cricket Tasmania’s system, make up the squad for the 11-team tournament.
This year's competition has the Hobart Hurricanes, Melbourne Renegades, Melbourne Stars, Perth Scorchers, Adelaide Strikers, ACT Comets, and NT Strike representing Australian domestic cricket, while international teams from Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh and the United States will also do battle in the top end.
Joining the Hobart Hurricanes for his first taste of professional cricket in more than 12 months is Iain Carlisle in his first appearance since the 2023-24 Sheffield Shield Final.
Also, in the Top End T20 squad are mainstays of Tasmania’s domestic side, Gabe Bell, Brad Hope, Nivethan Radhakrishnan, Billy Stanlake, Charlie Wakim, Tim Ward and Mac Wright.
Youngsters Marcus Bean, Raf Macmillan and Will Prestwidge are also part of the Hobart Hurricanes Academy squad, who will be looking to stake their claim for Jeff Vaughan’s side later in the domestic season.
In exciting news for Cricket Tasmania’s male pathway, recent Australia ‘A’ debutant Louis Smith has been selected for the squad, as have Zac Curtain and northern Tasmanian Tom Dwyer.
Coaching the side will be Jeff Vaughan, and he will be assisted by Mike Smith (batting) and Jackson Bird (bowling), in what will be Bird’s first role within the Tasmanian set-up as a coach.
