In a long-awaited announcement for the Hobart Hurricanes that will have all fans excited, Australian representative and star batter Tim David can be confirmed as re-signed through to the end of BBL|16.
Dominating for the Hurricanes in BBL|14, averaging 42.33 with the bat, David is looking forward to being a part of the ‘Cane Train again.
“I'm super excited to re-sign with the Hurricanes for another two seasons. “Last year was special, and I can't wait to do it all again next summer!" said David.
David’s signature was one the last remaining pieces for the Hurricanes batting line, with Mitch Owen, Ben McDermott, Nikhil Chaudhary, and Matt Wade signing new contracts, and Beau Webster and Jake Weatherald also joining the Hurricanes squad.
Signing with the Hobart Hurricanes in BBL|10 from the Perth Scorchers, his career took off soon after, debuting for Australia against India in 2022 following an international career for Singapore from 2019 – 2020.
He has since played 40 games for Australia, scoring 643 runs at an average of 26.79, and has been one of the first names selected in their XI due to his damaging T20 batting and power hitting.
His Hurricanes career has seen him bat across the middle to lower order, usually coming in at number 6 or 7, entering the crease at the backend of matches to help guide the Purple Army home or accelerate the run rate when required.
BBL|14 was one of great success for David, and he reminded Hurricanes fans just how talented he is, guiding the team home in three consecutive matches against the Strikers, Thunder and Renegades to keep their winning streak intact.
He also coined the nickname the ‘Surge Goliath’ for his incredible strike rate during the two-over batting power surge of BBL|14 matches, scoring 103 runs from 37 balls.
David is one of Australia’s most athletic outfielders, known for his spectacular boundary catches and a rocket arm that consistently saves runs.
Cricket Tasmania General Manager – High Performance, Salliann Beams, discussed her excitement about having David under contract for another two seasons.
"Tim has been instrumental in shaping what we’re building here in Hobart, and his leadership last season played a massive role in helping the team win our first championship...He is a game-changer, with a unique skill set and reputation in T20 cricket makes him a prized asset, and we’re lucky to have him on our side... What he managed to do for us in the backend of matches in BBL|14 was so impressive, and I am delighted that he will be continuing his career in purple!" said Beams.
David joins Rehan Ahmed (O/S), Iain Carlisle, Nikhil Chaudhary, Nathan Ellis, Rishad Hossain (O/S), Chris Jordan (O/S), Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, Mitch Owen, Billy Stanlake, Matt Wade, Jake Weatherald, Beau Webster, and Mac Wright under contract ahead of BBL|15, with further signings and re-signings to be announced soon.
