The Cricket Tasmania Awards Night, held this year at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, provides an opportunity for the Tasmanian cricket family to celebrate the achievements of the 2024-25 season.
The major awards for the 2024-25 season are the Hurricanes Player's of the Year in the WBBL and BBL.
The Hobart Hurricanes BBL Player of the Year has been won by Mitch Owen.
Owen, playing in a new role of opening the batting for the Hobart Hurricanes, dominated BBL|14 from the outset as his name became a fan favourite when the Purple Army lifted the BBL Trophy for the first time.
Scoring the most runs in the competition (425 runs), hitting the most sixes (36 – 10 more than the next best), and finishing in the BBL Team of the Year, Owen’s season goes down as one of the most impressive in Hurricanes history.
The Hobart Hurricanes WBBL Player of the Year has been won by Nicola Carey.
Carey, batting in the new role of number three for the Hobart Hurricanes and making her usual impact with the ball, had another impressive season in purple.
Finishing third in the overall run scoring for the Hurricanes and second most in wickets, Carey’s consistency across the board has won her the award this year, despite many strong performances from other members of the WBBL squad.
The top three for the major awards are as follows:
Hurricanes BBL Player of the Year:
1. Mitch Owen
2. Tim David
3. Nikhil Chaudhary
Hurricanes WBBL Player of the Year:
