The Hobart Hurricanes are proud to announce that Mac Wright has been re-signed for two more seasons!
After his breakout season during BBL|13, Wright established himself as a key aspect of the top-order of the Hurricanes line-up.
"I'm excited to be re-signing with the Hurricanes for another two seasons."
"I'm really excited for the opportunities that came my way last season and I hope to keep expressing myself in the purple jersey in front of the 'Canes fans," said Wright.
Wright burst onto the national scene in BBL|09 playing his first Big Bash game against the Melbourne Stars, helping the Hurricanes to a BBL Finals appearance, before opening the batting with 70 runs off 50 balls against the Renegades, and 64 off 45 against the Thunder.
He ended the most recent BBL campaign with the second most run for the entire squad, with 202 runs next to his name to go with 12 sixes, and one of our most reliable fielders on the boundary.
Coming into the XI after not being selected for the first two matches of the season, Wright scored 63 runs against the Renegades in a 140-run partnership with Matthew Wade, helping the Hurricanes to a crucial win.
Sadly, Wright underwent a knee-reconstruction following an injury sustained in the Marsh One Day Cup against Western Australia in February 2024, but is on track for a return to cricket during the Hurricanes BBL|14 campaign.
Wright’s versatility to play anywhere across the batting line-up is one the many reasons for his re-signing, able to open the batting or help close the innings, playing a role for whatever is needed for the team.
Hobart Hurricanes Head Coach, Jeff Vaughan, discussed Wright’s re-signing for two years.
“Mac is thoroughly deserving of this two-year contract; he was massive for us last year when we were put under a lot of pressure at the top of the order.
“His ability to bat through the innings, as well as possessing the skill and power to find the boundary, makes him an asset to the Hurricanes franchise.
“More importantly, Mac is a great character to have around the squad, he is the ultimate professional, and is always willing to put the team before himself,” explained Vaughan.
Wright joins Tim David, Paddy Dooley, Nathan Ellis, Peter Hatzoglou, Caleb Jewell, Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, Mitch Owen, Matthew Wade, and Charlie Wakim as Hurricanes players under contract ahead of BBL|14.
Details on memberships for BBL|14 will be communicated to members in the coming months.
