Hurricanes add rising star Isa Malgioglio to WBBL|11 squad

The Hobart Hurricanes can now confirm the 15th spot on their WBBL|11 squad list, following their Spring Challenge win last week in Sydney.

Talented young leg-spinner Isa Malgioglio joins the Hurricanes after a terrific start to the WNCL season with South Australia.

She is delighted to be playing in Hobart this WBBL.

“I’m very excited and grateful to be joining the Hurricanes and to learn from such an experienced group of players!

“I can’t wait for WBBL|11 to kick off.”

After graduating from the NSW pathways, Malgioglio made her debut in the WNCL in early 2022 for New South Wales before moving to South Australia at the start of the 2025–26 season.

She has taken three wickets in two games for South Australia, both against the Tasmanian Tigers – including the scalps of Hurricanes skipper Elyse Villani and new teammate Rachel Trenaman.

In the shorter format, she signed as a replacement player for the Sydney Thunder in WBBL|09, and for their crosstown rivals, the Sydney Sixers, in WBBL|10.

Most recently, she represented the Adelaide Strikers in this year’s Spring Challenge, taking four wickets in three games, including an impressive 2-17 from four overs against the ACT Meteors.

Hobart Hurricanes Head Coach Jude Coleman is looking forward to having Malgioglio around the squad.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Isa to the Hurricanes squad for this year’s WBBL.

“She’s a talented young leg-spinner who has shown great promise through the NSW pathway and has already made an impact for South Australia in the WNCL and for the Strikers in the Spring Challenge.

“Isa will bring a fresh energy to our group and adds valuable depth to our spin bowling stocks, and I’m confident that if given the opportunity, she’ll be a genuine wicket-taking threat,” said Coleman.

Isa Malgioglio joins Nicola Carey, Heather Graham, Ruth Johnston, Lizelle Lee, Nat Sciver-Brunt (O/S), Hayley Silver-Holmes, Amy Smith, Lauren Smith, Linsey Smith (O/S), Molly Strano, Rachel Trenaman, Elyse Villani, Callie Wilson, and Danni Wyatt-Hodge (O/S) as Hurricanes players under contract for WBBL|11.

The Hurricanes WBBL|11 squad will have one more player to announce on Friday, ahead of Game One on Sunday in Brisbane.
