Following an outstanding return to play after multiple knee surgeries, Rachel Trenaman’s comeback to all forms of cricket can now be confirmed, with the batter signing with the Hobart Hurricanes for the WBBL|11 season.
The 23-year-old scored 63, 80* not out and 124 in consecutive WNCL games in February this year after missing more than two years of cricket, with her last professional game in January 2023.
She is delighted to be around the Hurricanes squad once again.
“I’m really excited to be representing the Tasmanian community for another season.
“We have a well-rounded squad, and I feel this season will be something special especially off the back of the men’s title win.
“I’m grateful to be a part of the Hurricanes and to be out there playing T20 cricket again is something I’ve really strived for,” said Trenaman.
Making her debut in WBBL|04 for the Sydney Thunder, as a 17-year-old, Trenaman would go on to play 23 games for the Thunder before making the move to the Hurricanes in WBBL|07 after winning the title with the Thunder in the season before.
She made her debut for the Hurricanes in WBBL|08, playing in 12 games in purple with a top score of 31 before missing the past three WBBL seasons through injury.
Trenaman’s triumphant return to play last summer was rewarded with a selection in the ‘Green vs Gold’ match in March, before playing in an Australia ‘A’ four-day match against England in April, and a series of matches against India.
She scored four half-centuries in the five matches, which is a testament to the hard work that Trenaman has put into her comeback to playing professional cricket.
Hobart Hurricanes Head Coach Jude Coleman is pleased to see Trenaman back in purple this summer.
“‘We are really excited to have ‘Trenno’ back with the Hurricanes this WBBL season.
She is one of the most talented young batters in Australia, and it is just great to see her back, fit and ready to play some T20 cricket.
“Having not played T20s since WBBL|08, it’ll be great to have Trenno out in purple once again,” said Coleman.
Rachel Trenaman joins Nicola Carey, Heather Graham, Ruth Johnston, Lizelle Lee, Nat Sciver-Brunt (O/S), Hayley Silver-Holmes, Amy Smith, Lauren Smith, Linsey Smith (O/S), Molly Strano, Elyse Villani, and Danni Wyatt-Hodge (O/S) as Hurricanes players under contract for WBBL|11, with future players to be announced over the coming months.
