Hurricanes season hopes kept alive

After a tough run in their past five matches, the Hurricanes were ready to come out firing seeking a victory against the Melbourne Stars.

Captain Elyse Villani won the bat flip and elected to bowl first, looking to capitalise in the field early on.

The pressure was on early in the innings as Meg Lanning came out in epic form, performing at the  expected level from a player with such experience. T

As she sat comfortably on 27 runs the Hurricanes were desperate to send her back to the dugout and it was the pairing of Heather Graham bowling and a great diving forward catch from Shabnim Ismail to do so.

The wickets continued to come rolling in for the ‘Canes as Maisy Gibson drew Alice Capsey  out from the crease where she was stumped by Lizelle Lee, and Nicola Carey produced an immaculate caught and bowled.

Amy Smith claimed Sophia Dunkley and it appeared that the Hurricanes were well on top of the innings, and it continued as Sutherland, Flintoff and Reid all dismissed for the Stars.

It was Strano with the surprise finish, completing her bowling spell with a sneaky 3 wickets to her name, restricting the Stars to a total of 121 runs.

Lizelle Lee and Bryony Smith made their way to the crease looking to chase down the set total in quick form.

Lee found her footing fast but unfortunately it wasn’t Smith’s night as she departed for just 1 run, bringing Captain Villani to the crease.

It seemed to be a disastrous start for the ‘Canes as Villani found herself at the hands of a duck, bringing Nic Carey to the crease to steady the ship.

The pairing of Lee and Carey proved vital as the two held strong, Lee powering to a half century in her trademark power hitting form.

Those two at the crease was all the Hurricanes needed as they took it all the way to the end of a dominant innings.

The Hurricanes chased down the Stars with ease winning by 8 wickets.

Player of the match was awarded to Lizelle Lee with 77* off 49.
