The Hobart Hurricanes have officially locked in their second international signing for BBL|07, with Tom Curran the second Englishman to join the squad.
Curran joins Tymal Mills and will play a crucial role in bolstering the Hurricanes bowling attack.
The 22-year-old said he was looking forward to playing in Tasmania this season.
“I can’t wait, it’s a great opportunity and an honor to be involved with the Hobart Hurricanes and I’m looking forward to getting out to Australia and being part of the Big Bash, it’s something I’m really excited about,” he said.
“We follow the Big Bash quite a lot in England – it’s one of the biggest T20 competitions in the world. Listening to other English players who have played in the tournament they’ve only got great things to say about it.
“I can’t wait to join the squad and the coaching staff in Tasmania.”
Curran and Tymal Mills have been team mates in the past in the English Lions squad, and Curran – who made his T20 International debut for England in June this year – said he was keen to join forces with the left-arm quick again.
“Thankfully I’m not playing against him this Australian summer, but I’m looking forward to watching him bowl some thunderbolts from the other end,” he said.
Having never played in Australia, Curran, managed by Footprint in the UK, said the conditions in Australia would be a fresh challenge for him as a bowler.
“I’ll be looking to execute my skills as well as I can. The fields in Australia are bigger and there is a bit more bounce for the fast bowlers, so those will be challenges,” he said.
“I’m sure I’ll speak bowling tactics with the coaches when I get down there.”
Hurricanes captain George Bailey has played plenty of cricket in England, and Curran said he was grateful to be on the same team as Bailey this summer.
“I’m glad he’s on my side – he loves batting against Surrey (Curran’s County side) and I’ve got some bad memories from a personal perspective bowling to him,” he said.
“But he’s a great guy and I can’t wait to work alongside him at the Hurricanes.”
