WBBL Hurricanes Head North of the State

04 January 2017

Satterthwaite and Fazackerley named in squad ahead of Thunder clash

The WBBL Hobart Hurricanes will play their first home match of WBBL|02 tomorrow night when they take on the Sydney Thunder at the University of Tasmania Stadium in Launceston from 6.30pm.

After a loss in Sydney against the Sixers the WBBL Hurricanes will be looking to record some wins at home with the team heading to Blundstone Arena after Launceston for a double-header with the men’s team on Sunday.

Hurricanes selectors have made two changes to the squad ahead of their clash with 2nd placed Sydney Thunder, with NZ international Amy Satterthwaite replacing Irish recruit Isobel Joyce whilst local teenager Erin Fazackerly comes in for the injured Meg Phillips.

Coach Julia Price was optimistic about the Canes chances against last year's premiers, stating that a well-earned break over the holiday period will put them in good stead for tomorrow night's match.

"I think the New Year's break will have done the girls a world of good and we've got a bit of a home stretch ahead, so it will be great to have that local support."

"Obviously it's great to have Satterthwaite back. Isobel Joyce played really well for us but Amy's bowling has been really good, particularly when she got us across the line against the Renegades, so I think Heather [Knight] will be keen to get her back and have another great cricketing brain on the field.

Price also hinted that Tasmanian-born bowler Erin Fazackerley may be in line for her Hurricanes debut, stating the Launceston pitch could suit her bowling style.

"Absolutely. I know the guys played yesterday and Dan Marsh [Tasmanian Tigers coach] said the bounce was a bit poppish, so that might suit someone of Erin's height if we give her a bowl. We'll make that call tomorrow."

"I think playing in Launceston is a great way to start the new year for us. 3-3 isn't too bad but it's not as good as last year, so starting 2017 in a place where we've experienced a lot of success will be a positive for us. We're only one win off second place, so we've just got to make sure that we take every advantage and opportunity that comes our way, particularly whilst we're playing at home."

The match will start at 6.30pm at the newly named University of Tasmania Stadium in Launceston and streamed live at The match is free entry.
