The Hobart Hurricanes release the following squad of 13 for this weekend’s WBBL matches against the Melbourne Stars on Saturday 8 December and Sunday 9 December at West Park in Burnie.
All three of the Hurricanes’ international signings will make their first WBBL|04 appearance if selected in the final team, with the trio all unavailable to play in last weekend’s opening match against the Perth Scorchers.
Indian opener Smriti Mandhana joins #TasmaniasTeam fresh off a strong T20 World Cup campaign, highlighted by an impressive innings of 83 runs from 55 balls against Australia in the final group stage match.
English captain Heather Knight returns to the Hurricanes after leading England to November’s World T20 final just 16 months after claiming the World ODI title.
Knight made 334 runs in 14 innings at an average of 25.6, with a highest score of 69, in WBBL}02 for the Hurricanes before injury ruled her out of the WBBL|03 campaign.
West Indies star Hayley Matthews will be hoping to play her opening match of WBBL|04 after being ruled out of last week’s match with a toe injury. Matthews returns for her fourth-straight WBBL campaign in purple following the World T20 in her home country, and has shown her dominance with both the bat and ball in previous seasons.
Ashley Day, international replacement Alex Hartley and Emma Manix-Geeves are the outgoing changes to the squad named to face the Stars.
The squad is as follows:
Sasha Moloney (C)
Brooke Hepburn (VC)
The Hurricanes will be looking to open their WBBL|04 account against the Stars, having fallen short of the Scorchers with three balls remaining in last Saturday’s season opener.
A livestream of both matches available on www.cricket.com.au. Entry is free.
