WBBL|05 Fixture Revealed: Festival Weekend Returns to Hobart

12 June 2019

Blundstone Arena will come alive as part for the WBBL's Festival Weekend this November after the Hobart Hurricanes' standalone WBBL|05 fixture was released today.

From Friday night 22 November to Sunday afternoon 24 November, four of the WBBL's eight clubs will descend on Blundstone Arena, playing matches across the weekend with family friendly activations in store for the Cadbury Hill following the success of last season.

WBBL04 Champions, the Brisbane Heat, are the Hurricanes' Friday night opponent under lights before the Adelaide Strikers take on Salliann Briggs' side featuring its star new signings - Australian Ashes representatives, Nicola Carey and Tayla Vlaeminck, the following evening.

Ellyse Perry's Sydney Sixers will be the opponent on Wednesday 13 November at Mowbray Cricket Club's Invermay Park in Launceston due to resurfacing works next door at the University of Tasmania Stadium.

All-rounder Carey and young fast bowler Belinda Vakarewa will face their former side, the Sydney Thunder, in two matches at West Park in Burnie - the first WBBL matches played in Tasmania as part of the inaugural standalone season on Saturday 2 & Sunday 3 November.

Away from home, the Hurricanes battle the Sixers at North Sydney Oval and travel to the Junction Oval in Melbourne twice to face the Stars - to open their season, then the Renegades either side of two matches at Allan Border Field in Brisbane.

Two matches at Lilac Hill in Perth vs. the Scorchers close the regular season.

"Our WBBL matches were really well supported last summer and the players were embraced in local communities as part of our Super Clinics, Breakfast Clubs and MyState Blitz. We look forward to building on that success to truly become Tasmania's team," said Cricket Tasmania Chief Executive, Nick Cummins.

"The season moving to a standalone fixture presents a really exciting opportunity for the competition to thrive in its own right and as you saw last week with some venue announcements, we're already at work to amplify that across the state."

Hobart Hurricanes Memberships for BBL|09 & WBBL|05 will go on sale and be available for renewal in July.
