The back story
It all comes down to this... will it feel a little strange if our season comes to a close tonight? We're not surprised if the answer is yes.
We'll face the Melbourne Stars - inclusive of their Australian talent in the way of Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa, Peter Handscomb and Glenn Maxwell, for a spot in the big dance.
Our winning consistency through the 14-game regular season has earned us hosting rights but that won't mean much against an experienced, battle-hardened outfit.
They also have Ben Dunk, who was pretty explosive in purple - and we now have James Faulkner, who returns from precautionary rest tonight to turn out for his first final with #TasmaniasTeam against his former side.
One may suggest that if we limit the Maxwell-Stoinis damage, don't go after Sandeep Lamichhane and Wade & Short get us off to a strong start (again) that we should get by okay tonight, but a BBL Semi-Final is more complex than that...
Hobart Hurricanes vs. Melbourne Stars
BBL|08 Semi-Final #1
Thursday 14 February 2019, 7:30pm
Blundstone Arena, Hobart
Broadcast LIVE on Seven and Fox Cricket
Hobart Hurricanes squad: Matthew Wade (C), Qais Ahmad, Jofra Archer, George Bailey, Alex Doolan, James Faulkner, Caleb Jewell, Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, Simon Milenko, David Moody, Clive Rose, D'Arcy Short.
Melbourne Stars squad: Glenn Maxwell (C), Jackson Bird, Dwayne Bravo, Ben Dunk, Seb Gotch, Evan Gulbis, Peter Handscomb, Sandeep Lamichhane, Nick Larkin, Nic Maddinson, Marcus Stoinis, Daniel Worrall, Adam Zampa.
The Stars needed just one win from their final three matches to qualify for the Semi-Finals but left it until the very last game to do so.
That win over the Sixers - who slipped from second to third as a result, though, showed in one game what sort of devastating performance they're capable of.
To the contrary, we locked in our Semi-Finals passage with four games to spare, then locked in top spot with one game remaining.
The loss to the Thunder in our final game up in Canberra highlighted some areas that still need to be worked on, that's what the preparation this week would've been all about.
Last time we met
A tremendous opening stand of 95 between Matthew Wade and D'Arcy Short set us well on our way to compiling a winning target in this one.
Short's 96* (57) was the gamebreaker as the Stars top order - minus their Australian representatives, couldn't muster anything similar.
In the end we cruised to a big win to kick start our four-game mid-season road trip.
A first-ever home BBL Final?! Fingers crossed...
