Tassal backing Tasmania's Team

18 October 2017

Tasmanian company Tassal has signed on as a co-major sponsor of the Hobart Hurricanes for two seasons.

The Hobart Hurricanes has today announced its biggest sponsorship agreement in the organisation’s history, joining forces with Tassal for the next two seasons in a unique partnership that is centred on health, high performance and the community.

Nick Cummins, CEO of Cricket Tasmania welcomes Tassal as a Co-Major partner to the Hurricanes and official partner to the Hurricanes WBBL and Cricket Tasmania.

“This partnership recognises what the Hurricanes mean to Tasmanian communities and what role cricket plays in Tasmanians’ lives. We have 43,000 participants across the state who play cricket and over 70,000 fans packed our stadium last season to watch the Hurricanes play. This partnership will highlight the role of sport and healthy protein in health and wellbeing to all our fans and our current and future cricketers.”

“Our organisations have many similarities, including our mutual focus on social cohesion and inclusion, health and wellbeing, high performance and driving success.

“We are also both passionate and proud of our people, our product and our performance – we are proudly Tasmanian.”

“We will bring that passion and energy to this partnership as we cook up a summer storm on field and off field” he said.

Tassal Managing Director and Chief Executive Mark Ryan said Tassal has a long involvement in directly supporting and giving back to local community initiatives and sporting teams in Tasmania.

“A corporate partnership with a sporting organisation like the Hobart Hurricanes, a well-recognised and high-profile brand both locally and interstate, is a great next step for us to take.

The Hurricanes mirror our ambition of producing and fostering local talent with overseas experience and then producing terrific results on the national stage,” he said.

Mr Ryan said Tassal is a proud Tasmanian-based company employing around 1,000 Tasmanians producing a healthy and nutritious protein. Tassal sees this partnership as part of the circa $500m it continues to invest back into the Tasmanian economy each year.

“The benefits for Tassal are significant. Through aligning our brand with the Hobart Hurricanes, the Hurricanes nutritionist will work with us on recipes and assist to drive awareness on health and well-being benefits of salmon – one of the healthiest proteins you can eat.

In addition, the Hurricanes’ high-performance staff will provide Tassal’s staff with training on resilience and leadership,” he said.

“While the Hurricanes have a profile in regional Tasmania, we plan to build on that profile, particularly in the communities in which we operate.  We plan to bring Hurricanes beach cricket and summer salmon barbecues back to regional communities as part of a joint health and well-being initiative.”
