Hobart Hurricanes can confirm a new signing for BBL|07, with Tom Rogers joining Tasmania's Team with a Hurricanes deal to go alongside his Tasmanian state contract.
Rogers displayed strong form in the Futures League competition last season with the ACT Comets, winning the Player of the Year award. His efforts included taking 24 wickets in six games and 216 runs with a top score of 89.
“Being new to both a state setup and Big Bash side, I’m just taking everything as it comes at the moment,” he said.
“I’ve enjoyed learning the technical side in the Tasmanian set up, as well as approaches to different game situations.
“Based on the experience over the last couple months, I think the increased exposure to top class players and coaches in the Big Bash is something I’m really looking forward to.”
Although Rogers is proficient with both bat and ball, he said he was hoping to make an impact at the bowling crease in particular during BBL|07.
“My role in T20 has generally been to take wickets early with the ball and close out at the back end of the innings with bat or ball,” he said.
“There’s a great spread of players in the squad, so I’m keen to chat further with Gary Kirsten and the coaching staff about where they see me best fitting into the team.”
Rogers said the addition of head coach Gary Kirsten was an exciting one for the Hurricanes playing group.
“It took me a while to wrap my head around this as a cricketer and person, but I’ve learnt the value of listening and learning from others. Gary’s record across both playing and coaching speaks for itself, so I’m really looking forward to working with him,” he said.
