The Hobart Hurricanes has locked in another key signing for its women’s Big Bash squad, with Georgia Redmayne re-committing for WBBL|03.
Redmayne is a known force in the Hurricanes’ team, playing an important role both as a batter and wicketkeeper last season.
Playing for the Tasmanian Roar in the WNCL, Redmayne has become an adopted Tasmanian despite living in New South Wales for her university course which isn't offered in Tasmania, and said she was excited to be returning for the latest instalment of the women’s Big Bash competition.
“I’m extremely excited to be given the opportunity to re-sign with the Hurricanes. I thoroughly enjoyed my first taste of big bash cricket in WBBL02 and can’t wait to be back in purple this summer and hopefully help bring home our first WBBL title,” she said.
The wicketkeeper-batter was a key player for the Hurricanes last season, scoring 278 runs in 14 games including a top score of 64 not out, as well as completing 12 dismissals behind the stumps.
Reflecting on last season’s efforts, Redmayne said the balance and evenness of the squad was something the team would look to replicate in WBBL|03.
“One of the best elements of our squad last year was our depth - we were really well-rounded and never had to rely on a single player. As a collective, we produced some incredible results,” she said.
“We have a great positive culture and energy around the group here and hopefully that will translate into some good performances this year.”
With the Big Bash’s popularity growing year on year, Redmayne said she was looking forward to seeing Tasmania throw even more support behind the Hurricanes this season.
It’s great to be a part of a domestic tournament which offers the opportunity to play alongside and against some of the best players in the world. It’s wonderful to see the way the local fans and media are embracing the women’s game,” she said
“Hopefully we get a great turnout this season both in Hobart and Launceston, it’s always fantastic to meet the young girls and boys and see how much the Tasmanian public have embraced the Hurricanes brand.”
