Reardon bolsters Hurricanes batting

08 December 2017

The Hobart Hurricanes’ batting stocks have been bolstered today, with the signing of former Queensland and Brisbane Heat batter Nathan Reardon.

The 33-year-old joins the Hurricanes on a full Big Bash contract and said he was excited to be joining the team after only being approached a couple of weeks ago.

“I was pretty much finished with cricket and maybe thought there wouldn’t be an opportunity to resume my career in the Big Bash,” he said.

“I’ve always said I want to keep playing in the Big Bash for as long as I can, and I got a call from George Bailey a couple of weeks ago asking if I was available, and I jumped at the chance.

“Hopefully I can do well down here and it continues my career for a few years.”

The former Melbourne Renegade, Adelaide Striker and Brisbane Heat batsman replaces James Bazely, who will miss the competition with osteitis pubis.

Reardon says while he brings a relaxed mindset to his time in Tasmania, success is still the priority.

“I come here with quite a relaxed attitude, I’m obviously very competitive as most sportspeople are and I want to do all I can to win games for the Hurricanes when called upon,” he said.

“But I’m still quite relaxed about it all, I’m not going to put too much pressure on myself so hopefully that can equate to doing well out on the field.”

Reardon was a surprise addition to the Hurricanes Academy squad which travelled to Auckland last week to play two matches against the Auckland Aces.

“It was good to go over there, have a run around and play some high-intensity cricket,” he said.

“I think the contract was effectively over the line by that point but there were some logistics to work out.”

The Hurricanes kick off their pre-tournament preparations next week, playing warm-up games against the Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Stars.

UPDATE: Nathan Reardon scored a quickfire 73 not out from just 48 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes in his cameo innings for Kingborough v Glenorchy in the Cricket Tasmania Premier League last Friday afternoon.
