The Hobart Hurricanes’ bowling stocks continue to be bolstered, with the re-signing of left-arm quick Sam Rainbird.
The Tasmanian-contracted bowler played just one game in BBL|06, but adds depth and variety to what is already a strong group of bowlers, headed up by international signing Tymal Mills.
Rainbird said he was keen to re-establish himself in the Hurricanes’ bowling unit.
“Definitely glad to re-sign, this will be fifth year with the Hurricanes and I’ve enjoyed every season so far. We’ve got a different-looking squad this year and a new coach so I’m looking forward to working with them,” he said.
“With Stuart Broad playing with us last year we were vying for the same spot and I missed out with him being the world-class player he is, so I’m looking to be in form at the start of the BBL and putting my hand up as much as possible.”
Rainbird said he was also looking forward to working with fellow left-armer Tymal Mills, who has signed on for two seasons with the Hurricanes.
“I was lucky enough to go over to England in the off-season and watched him bowl in the NatWest T20 Blast competition over there, so I’m looking forward to training with him and learning as much as I can,” he said.
With the Hurricanes taking BBL to Launceston for the first time in December, Rainbird had nothing but good things to say about his cricketing experiences in the north of the state.
“It’s going to be a new experience and something that I think the Hurricanes have done really well in coordinating,” he said.
“We played a practice game up there a few years ago and we got lots of people there to watch which that was awesome – hopefully we can draw a sell-out crowd in Launceston in December.”
