Raack and Moloney re-sign for WBBL|03

17 October 2017

The Hobart Hurricanes has penciled in two more players for its WBBL roster, with Sasha Moloney and Celeste Raack both re-signing.

Moloney played seven WBBL matches last season before injuring her knee and preventing her from playing any further part in the Hurricanes’ campaign.

She said it was exciting to be back playing cricket after spending the pre-season getting back to full fitness.

“It’s exciting to have a WBBL contract. I’m getting back into cricket after a knee injury so I’m looking forward to getting back,” she said.

“It’s been a long recovery but I’ve had an extended pre-season which hopefully means I can cement my spot and contribute to the team.”

Moloney said she was looking forward to returning to Launceston to play WBBL games in December, where the Hurricanes’ have a good record.

“We’re undefeated in Launceston, so the girls love playing up there and we always get really good support from the local fans up there,” she said.

“To get a state-wide audience is fantastic and it’s great that we’re playing a Big Bash double-header up in Launceston this year.”

Raack played three games in WBBL|02, struggling to break into a bowling attack which contained the likes of Hayley Matthews, Julie Hunter, Brooke Hepburn and Amy Satterthwaite.

“I’m really looking forward to getting involved with the Hurricanes again. We’ve always been really strong with our spin options so I’m planning on doing my best to break into the side bowling leg-spin,” she said.

“The last couple of years the semi-finals have been our curse, so we’re looking forward to going one further this year.”

Raack said the change in squad members and increased coverage compared to WNCL was an exciting change.

“It’s always a bit of shift from the Roar setup – we obviously have overseas players in and the community really gets involved,” she said.

“The double headers with the men should be really exciting. We play well up in Launceston and with the men playing up there after us as well it should be a great spectacle.”
