Qais is back!

01 August 2019

The Hobart Hurricanes excitedly announce the return of Afghanistan's rising star leg spinner, Qais Ahmad, for KFC BBL|09.

Qais burst into the BBL spotlight as an replacement for Tymal Mills late in BBL|08 as the Hurricanes surged towards the Finals Series atop the table.

The 18-year-old snared seven wickets in his three matches, including a best of 3/33 in the Semi-Final against the Melbourne Stars where he took the wickets of Nic Maddinson and Peter Handscomb before one of the balls of the tournament to dismiss Marcus Stoinis.

Qais - who recently took ten wickets in a Player of the Match performance for Afghanistan A on their tour of Bangladesh, before being named Player of the Series, also dismissed Aaron Finch in his first over for the Hurricanes and Usman Khawaja to be already generating an impressive CV early in his career.

"I'm thrilled to be returning to the Hobart Hurricanes for a full season after a great start there last summer," said Qais.

"It's clear to me that this team has success in them and I can't wait to be apart of that in front of the fans in Tasmania."

Hurricanes BBL Head Coach Adam Griffith welcomes the addition of Qais to his spin stocks for BBL|09.

"Qais showed a lot in his three games with us last season and really impressed, it was an easy decision to bring him back," he said.

"He spins the ball well both ways for someone so young and provides a level of energy that we like in the field, we know the fans are going to enjoy having him around for a full season."

BBL|09 begins for the Hurricanes on Friday 20 December and Hurricanes Memberships are on sale today, for more information jump on our Membership portal here.
