Match preview: The Eliminator

20 January 2022

The Hobart Hurricanes will be heading to the MCG will a clean slate tomorrow night, when they kick off the KFC BBL|11 Finals series with ‘The Eliminator’ against the Adelaide Strikers.

Despite being on the wrong side of history on Wednesday night in their final match of the regular season against the Melbourne Stars, the Hurricanes are briming with confidence at the prospect of a clean slate against the Strikers.  They will also be buoyed by Scott Boland, Riley Meredith and Tom Rogers poised to return to the side's bowling line-up, after being rested for their most recent match at the same venue.

The Hurricanes and Strikers have split both their home-and-away fixtures so far in KFC BBL|11.  The Hurricanes had a resounding seven-wicket win against the Strikers at Blundstone Arena, off the back of an unbeaten century from Ben McDermott, who carried his bat for the entire innings.  However, the Strikers got their measure back in the reverse fixture at Adelaide Oval, also winning by seven wickets thanks to a masterclass from veteran Peter Siddle with the ball (5-23 off 3.5 overs).

The Hurricanes have named a 15-player squad ahead of tomorrow’s must-win clash:

Scott Boland
Tim David
Peter Handscomb
Caleb Jewell
Josh Kann
Ben McDermott
Riley Meredith
Mitch Owen
Wil Parker
Tom Rogers
Will Sanders
D'Arcy Short
Jordan Thompson
Matthew Wade (c)
Mac Wright

Sandeep Lamichhane has finished his stint with the Hurricanes for KFC BBL|11 and will return home to join up with his Nepal teammates for national duties, in their preparations for the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Nathan Ellis and Joel Paris remain unavailable for selection due to injury.

Tomorrow’s match will commence at 7.15pm AEDT, and will be available for broadcast via 7 Cricket, Fox Cricket, Kayo Sports and SEN 1116.
