The Hobart Hurricanes’ first international signing for BBL|07 has been confirmed, with English fast bowler Tymal Mills to join the squad.
After playing two matches with the Brisbane Heat in BBL|06, Mills has committed to the Hurricanes for two seasons and said he was looking forward to arriving in Tasmania.
“I was really pleased when my agent gave me the call and said the Hurricanes were interested in me coming over. I want to make it a long-lasting relationship, so I’m really pleased to sign on for a couple of seasons,” he said.
“The Big Bash is a great tournament; I’ve been watching it at home for the last few years now and I know it’s a competition which British cricketers and fans really enjoy watching.”
Playing four games for Sussex in the recently completed Natwest T20 Blast competition in England, Mills took five wickets – including a haul of 3-20 against Surrey.
His services were also highly sought after in the Indian Premier League earlier this year. Mills was purchased for $2.3 million by Royal Challengers Bangalore – the second biggest spend on any individual player in the competition behind fellow Englishman Ben Stokes.
Despite playing just two games in BBL|06, Mills certainly made an impression – with his pace and variety catching the eye of fans across the country.
“I was only here for two weeks last season, so I’m looking forward to getting my teeth into the whole tournament this year,” he said.
Mills will fill a key role for the Hurricanes’ bowling line up, looking to bowl fast and economically at the beginning and end of innings.
“Whenever I take the new ball and bowl in the powerplay I look to come hard – bowl fast, bowl my bouncers and use the pace and angle I’ve got being a left-armer. If there is any extra bounce in the surfaces we play on, then hopefully I’ll exploit that,” he said.
“At the end of innings I like to mix up my pace, get some yorkers in and slower balls as well.”
“I’d like to think I’m suited to most wickets, so hopefully we can get some nice ones this summer.”
Mills’ signing is awaiting a No Objection Certificate signed by the England and Wales Cricket Board. More signings for the Hurricanes will be announced shortly.
