WBBL|06 Match Preview: Oct 31 + Nov 1

30 October 2020

The Hobart Hurricanes will be looking to overcome a disappointing start to WBBL|06, when they take on the Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Stars in back-to-back matches this weekend.

Following a heavy loss to the Adelaide Strikers and their clash with the Perth Scorchers being abandoned without a ball bowled due to rain, the Hurricanes are keen to secure their first win this weekend.

Whilst WBBL|05 Champions, the Brisbane Heat, will be a challenge – with the Heat having won five or their last six matches against the Hurricanes – the ‘Canes will be buoyed by Hayley Matthews inclusion in the squad again this week.  In 2017, Matthews put on a masterclass with the ball against the Heat, finishing with figures of 5-19 – the second give-wicket haul in WBBL history.

On Sunday the Hurricanes will then turn their attention to the might of the Melbourne Stars. The ‘Canes have a good record against the stars, having reigned victorious in their past three consecutive meetings.  Captain, Corinne Hall, will be looking to put in a big innings with the bat, being just one run away from making 100 career runs against the Melbourne Stars.  The Stars would be the fifth WBBL opposition for Hall to complete this feat against.

The 14-player squad named for this weekend’s matches is as below:

Corinne Hall (c)
Nell Bryson Smith
Nicola Carey
Brooke Hepburn
Erica Kershaw
Hayley Matthews
Sasha Moloney
Rachel Priest
Chloe Rafferty
Amy Smith
Naomi Stalenberg
Emma Thompson
Chloe Tryon
Belinda Vakarewa

If selected in the final XI, Nell Bryson Smith and Chloe Rafferty will make their respective Hurricanes debuts.
