Match Preview: Renegades v Hurricanes, Hurricanes v Sixers

16 October 2021

Check out our preview and squad for our clash against the Renegades.

The Hobart Hurricanes Weber WBBL|07 campaign officially kicks off this weekend, when they take on the Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Sixers in back-to-back fixtures at Blundstone Arena.

The Hurricanes have named a 14-player squad for the weekend's matches:

Nicola Carey
Ava Curtis
Mignon du Preez
Angelina Genford
Richa Ghosh
Ruth Johnston
Sasha Moloney
Rachel Priest (c)

Chloe Rafferty
Amy Smith
Naomi Stalenberg
Molly Strano

Belinda Vakarewa
Tayla Vlaeminck

Fifteen-year-old Launceston-based spinner, Ava Curtis, comes into the squad as a local replacement player for Maisy Gibson for the weekend's matches.  The Hurricanes are taking a cautious approach to Gibson's return to play after missing last season due to an ACL injury last year, particularly with Gibson having just completed a stint of quarantine earlier in the week.

Curtis, who has come through Cricket Tasmania's Greater Norther Raiders program, and is a bright young prospect for the future of Tasmanian women's cricket.

If selected in the final XI, Curtis along with Mignon du Preez, Angelina Genford, Richa Ghosh, Ruth Johnston and Molly Strano would all make their Hurricanes debuts.
