Match preview: Hurricanes v Renegades, Thunder

The Hobart Hurricanes are gearing up for their final fixtures of the Weber WBBL|07 season, which they will play in Mackay this weekend.

In back-to-back matches at Great Barrier Reef Arena, the Hurricanes will be facing two very beatable opponents who are currently sitting at opposite ends of the tournament ladder.

First up, the Hurricanes will face ladder-leaders, the Melbourne Renegades.  The Hurricanes and Renegades haven’t met since both side’s first match of the season, which was player under quarantine conditions in Hobart.  That match was a relatively close encounter, with the Renegades securing a six-wicket win after hitting the winning runs with just four balls in spare in the match.  The Indian duo of Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur

Then on Saturday, the Hurricanes will front up for their rematch against the Thunder.  The Hurricanes previously suffered a disappointing 37-run defeat at the hands of the Thunder in Launceston, after a frantic schedule of back-to-back matches.  The Hurricanes will need to stem the flow of runs coming from Indian opener, Smriti Mandhana, who found her form in the Thunder’s last outing against the Hurricanes with a half century, and has also been enjoying the batting conditions in Mackay, recently notching the highest score of the tournament – an unbeaten 114 runs – against the ladder-leading Renegades.
