Match preview: Hurricanes v Heat, Thunder

29 October 2021

The Hobart Hurricanes are gearing up for their final weekend of Weber WBBL|07 in Tasmania, as they prepare to face the Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder in back-to-back fixtures at Launceston’s University of Tasmania Stadium this weekend.

First up, the Hurricanes will take on the Brisbane Heat, where they will be looking to turn the table on their meeting with the Heat at the same venue earlier this week, where the visitors got the job done with an eight-wicket win.  Grace Harris was named player of the match for her unbeaten knock of 57 runs off just 46 balls, and so she is a key player the Hurricanes will be looking to nullify.

Straight off the back of Saturday night’s game, the Hurricanes will have a swift turnaround as they head straight into facing WBBL|06 Champions, the Sydney Thunder, on Sunday morning.  Last time the two teams met, it was the Thunder who came away as six-wicket winners, but interestingly, both teams have had significant personnel changes since then.  Most notably, it will be the first time former Hurricanes captain, Corinne Hall, suits up in lime green against her old side.

The Hobart Hurricanes have named an unchanged 15-player squad for their final weekend of Weber WBBL|07 matches in Tasmania:

Maddison Brooks
Nicola Carey
Mignon du Preez
Angelina Genford
Richa Ghosh
Ruth Johnston
Sasha Moloney
Rachel Priest (c)
Meg Radford
Chloe Rafferty
Amy Smith
Naomi Stalenberg
Molly Strano
Belinda Vakarewa
Tayla Vlaeminck

If selected in the final XI, Maddi Brooks, Meg Radford and Angelina Genford will make their Hurricanes debuts.

The Hurricanes will either bowl or face their first ball of the weekend at 7.30pm on Saturday night at Blundstone Arena.  For those who can’t make it to the game, the match will be broadcast on Fox Cricket, and available for livestream via Kayo Sports and
