Match Preview: Heat v Hurricanes

09 January 2020

The Hobart Hurricanes will have a point to prove when they face the Brisbane Heat at The Gabba on Thursday night.

It was the Heat who took the points only a week ago, compiling a club record 3-212 to take the win at Blundstone Arena.

The Hurricanes are back on the winners’ list on the back of a D’Arcy Short century in Perth.

Can they make it back-to-back wins for the first time in BBL|09?

Last time we met...

BBL|09 – Match 21 – 3 January 2020

The Heat piled on a mammoth total of 3-212 after being sent in, with the Hurricanes falling 31 runs short in reply at 9-181.

Chris Lynn (88* off 55) and Max Bryant (65 off 36) were the stars, plus cameos from Matt Renshaw and Ben Cutting.

Six Hurricanes reached 20 – but none were able to go on to a big score to get their side home.

The match-up...

Brisbane’s openers v Qais Ahmad

Brisbane young gun Max Bryant got his side off to a flyer in Hobart, while English import Tom Banton smashed a hard-to-believe 55 off just 16 balls in his most recent hit, against the Sydney Thunder.

Could the ‘Canes turn to one of their own rising stars, Qais Ahmad, to halt them in their tracks?

Qais loves a wicket – a will be hoping he can strike a few important blows for the men in purple.

The burning question...

Who will go big with the bat for the Hurricanes?

After having six players get 20s against the Heat two games ago, D’Arcy Short rectified that issue with an unbeaten century in his next hit against the Scorchers.

But Short has departed for Australian duties, and it’s someone else’s turn.

Will it be Matthew Wade in his first BBL|09 game?

Or will Ben McDermott or Caleb Jewell be able to turn their starts into big scores?

Maybe it’s David Miller’s turn, or perhaps George Bailey.

We’ll find out soon.

It’s a big game for...

Scott Boland

Scott Boland was super-impressive on his Hurricanes debut in Perth, picking up two wickets and effecting a run-out at the bowlers’ end off his own bowling.

He only becomes more important, with the absence of injured stars Riley Meredith and James Faulkner.

Boland is one of the most experienced members of the Hurricanes’ attack, and will be hoping he can make an impact early against the Heat.
