The Hobart Hurricanes proudly announce the addition of leg spinner, Maisy Gibson, to its squad for rebel WBBL|05.
The move to the Hurricanes from the Sydney Thunder coincides with Gibson's move to Tasmania in the off-season having played previously for the NSW Breakers.
At the Thunder, Gibson has played in each season of the WBBL to date, amassing 39 appearances for 36 wickets at an economy rate of 6.47 and a strike rate of 18.
Although Gibson has played in each instalment of the WBBL since its foundation, her path to playing at the top domestic level has not been easy, given she's undergone two knee reconstructions and still aged just 23.
Gibson has spent the past week on the Hurricanes & Tasmanian Tigers Women's pre-season tour in Darwin and her first days following her announcement as a Hurricanes player will be in schools in North-West Tasmania as part of the MyState Bank Community Blitz.
"I've loved the move to Hobart so far and I'm really excited to pull on the Hurricanes purple this season," said Gibson.
"Although the results weren't there for the Hurricanes last season, the direction they're heading in is clear and I can't wait to be part of this team improving. The group has been working really hard in training and I think there's a big year ahead."
"Adding some quality spin bowlers to our attack was a priority for us this off-season so it's great to be able to add Maisy to our group," said Hurricanes Women's Head Coach, Salliann Briggs.
"Her leg spin will complement Sasha's off spinners which are coming along in leaps and bounds really quite nicely and add a lot of balance to our bowling attack.
Our Hurricanes' standalone WBBL season begins in Melbourne on Saturday 19 October before our first home matches in Burnie on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 November at West Park.
