The Hobart Hurricanes are proud to welcome Jarrod Freeman to their squad for KFC BBL|09.
Freeman played two matches for the Hurricanes at the back end of BBL|08 following the retirement of Johan Botha and now has the opportunity to put his name forward for selection when the season begins on December 20.
19-year-old Freeman showed plenty of promise in his brief stint in purple last summer. He secured his first Hurricanes wicket against the Adelaide Strikers at the University of Tasmania Stadium in Launceston, next door to Mowbray Cricket Club where he played much of his junior cricket before becoming a contracted player at Cricket Tasmania and moving to Hobart.
The off-spinner performed well throughout the Hurricanes' recent tour to Darwin for the NT Cricket TIO Strike League, taking 12 wickets at a miserly economy rate of 5.97.
"I loved my time with the squad last season and I can't wait to build on that experience this summer," said Freeman.
"I learned so much from the playing group and the atmosphere, particularly in front of family and friends in Launceston, was fantastic to play in front of."
"Jarrod's a great young player who really enjoys learning," said Hurricanes Head Coach Adam Griffith.
"His performances in Darwin highlighted the strides he's taken since debuting last summer and I'm looking forward to seeing him develop further as he gets more matches under his belt at the highest level."
Freeman joins Qais Ahmad and D'Arcy Short as the Hurricanes' spin options locked in so far for the season ahead.
