The Hobart Hurricanes are excited to announce the signing of emerging Indian star Smriti Mandhana for the rebel WBBL|04 season.
The 22-year-old opening batter will jet into Hobart fresh off a solid World T20 World Cup campaign for India, highlighted by an impressive knock of 83 from 55 balls against Australia in the final group stage match.
Mandhana is no stranger to Tasmania, having posted her maiden international hundred in a One Day International against Australia at Blundstone Arena in 2016.
The left-hander previously appeared for the Brisbane Heat in WBBL|02 season before an ACL injury cut her tournament short.
Having since recorded the fastest 50 in a T20I off 30 balls and claiming player of the series honours in the Women's Super League for the Western Storm - making a stunning 421 runs, Mandhana is looking forward to showcasing her talents for #TasmaniasTeam.
"I've heard from many players that the Hurricanes group is a great squad to be around and I can't wait to get to Tasmania for the matches."
Salliann Briggs is delighted with her squad's final signing.
"Mandhana is proven on the world stage, we saw that just last week with her knock against the Aussies," she said.
"I can't wait to see her in purple, she's an exciting addition not only for us but for the whole competition."
The WBBL Hurricanes will play their first match of the season this week against the Perth Scorchers on December 1 in Melbourne.
Their first games on home soil will take place at West Park in Burnie, with back-to-back matches being played on December 8 and 9. The first Hobart matches will be on The Big Weekend at Blundstone one week later.
