First off, the Hurricanes will play host to the Sydney Sixers at Sydney Showgrounds Stadium. Having fallen short to the might of the Sixers by just 9 runs exactly a week earlier, the ‘Canes will be looking to turn the tables. It will be a tough ask, with the Sixers only ever suffering defeat at the hands of the Hurricanes once since the inception of the WBBL competition. Keeping Sixers’ Captain, Ellyse Perry, under wraps will be key to a potential Hurricanes’ victory, with Perry having recorded more runs against the ‘Canes than any other player in the WBBL; 437 at an average of 73.
The Hurricanes will then back up to face the Brisbane Heat at Drummonye Oval on Sunday afternoon. It was a washed out Saturday afternoon game when the two sides last met, with the match just three balls off being constituted as legal in a result that almost certainly would’ve gone the way of the Hurricanes, so the ‘Canes will be out for redemption.
The two sides have only met in a completed match outside of Tasmania once before, and that encounter saw the Heat collect a five-wicket win in October 2019. In that same match, Heat Captain, Jess Jonassen, took her maiden WBBL four-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 4-20. However, in the two innings she has bowled against the Hurricanes since she has remained wicketless – and the ‘Canes will be looking to keep things that way!
Belinda Vakawera will be a key player for the Hurricanes, with the opening bowler just three wickets off collecting 50 WBBL scalps.
The 14-player squad named for this weekend’s matches remains unchanged, and is as below:
