The Hobart Hurricanes have added a trio of signings to their WBBL|03 list today, with Meg Phillips, Stefanie Daffara and Nicola Hancock filling the three remaining spots for local players.
Phillips played with the Hurricanes last season and has re-signed, while Daffara and Hancock have crossed from the Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Renegades respectively. All three have signed one-year deals with the club.
Daffara has also moved from New South Wales to play with the Tasmanian Roar in the WNCL this summer.
Phillips said although she has been in purple for the initial seasons of the tournament, securing a spot on the Hurricanes’ list for WBBL|03 wasn’t a foregone conclusion.
“Every year the competition has been going it’s harder and harder to keep your spot because there’s so much talent around and all the girls want to be a part of it, so I’m really happy to be a part of the Hurricanes squad,” she said.
“I love being part of the Hurricanes and the competition has grown and grown, so it’s great to be part of a good team.
“I’ve been plagued by a few injuries but I’m fit now and looking to work my way into the team and contribute as much as possible.”
The Hurricanes WBBL side have made the semi-finals in both seasons of the tournament, but are looking to go one better this year.
Phillips says with some changes to the list, including the signing of new international players Lauren Winfield and Veda Krishnamurthy the side is in a strong position heading into the third installment of the competition.
“There’s been some changes to the squad this year but I think we’ll still be a strong side. It’s a great environment we have down here in Hobart so I think all the new players will be welcomed and it will be great to have them.”
The Hurricanes have one remaining spot to fill on their roster, which is expected to be filled by a third international signing.
