The Latrobe Recreation Ground will host the second instalment of this Hurricanes Indigenous Tournament proudly supported by Principal Partner Tassal Tasmanian Salmon, the Latrobe Council and the Sydney Thunder.

The event was a huge success in the regional NSW town of Orange last summer, with all Tasmanian eyes now turning home to Latrobe this November.

The teams will play three T20 matches across two days with other cultural experiences being planned by the local community.

There will be a traditional 'Welcome To Country' opening ceremony and a special 'Passing On The Cap' ritual, where parents or relatives will handover the cricket caps they wore in their playing days to their sons, as a type of pre-game blessing.

Hurricanes General Manager Phil Rigby is confident the Hurricanes Indigenous Tournament can continue to build upon its initial success from last season.

“Last year’s tournament was fantastic and we received great feedback from the players that it was an ideal preparation for their National Indigenous Cricket Championships,” he said.

“We are delighted to be able to bring this tournament we’re hosting to Latrobe in the North West, and we would like to thank the Latrobe Council for supporting it.

"This is another great opportunity to engage cricket supporters and the wider community, in line with our vision of being #TasmaniasTeam.”

Latrobe Council Mayor Peter Freshney said: “It is particularly pleasing that our community will play host to games in the Indigenous Tournament and there will be a pathway element for female players included in this initiative."

"Latrobe Council and our community are rightly proud of our local recreation ground and associated facilities, and we welcome the awarding of these Hurricanes games.”

Hurricanes BBL Principal Partner Tassal Salmon are also involved in the initiative, featuring their branding on specially-designed Indigenous shirts the players will wear throughout the tournament.

The shirt was designed by local Indigenous artist and school teacher Danny Gardiner who worked with students from the New Town High School to jointly create the highly symbolic artwork.

The Hurricanes will unveil these playing shirts shortly with the artist himself explaining the motifs involved.

"Tassal is both proud and excited to support this great Hobart Hurricanes community initiative with our logo displayed on the backs of the playing shirts for all Indigenous Tournament participants," said Tassal Salmon's Head of Engagement Barb McGregor.
