Corinne Hall returns to captaincy role

14 October 2019

The Hobart Hurricanes are proud to appoint Corinne Hall as Captain for the rebel WBBL|05 season.

The 32-year-old batter, who has featured in 55 matches for the Hurricanes, will return to the role she held in the 2017-18 season this weekend when the first-ever standalone WBBL season begins with matches against the Melbourne Stars at the CitiPower Centre.

All-rounder Sasha Moloney captained the Hurricanes last summer but the leadership role has changed hands along with the make-up of the side, with up to six debutants expected when the side takes to the field this weekend too.

"It's fantastic to have Corinne back as the leader of our group, she brings a great level of energy and passion to the role," said Briggs.

"Sasha took to the captaincy role fantastically, she remains as a strong voice within our group and in the field and I'm sure her game will benefit from the freedom this change allows her."

Hall says she was surprised when Briggs asked about her interest in returning to the role whilst on pre-season camp in Queensland late last month.

"I'm proud to lead this group of players whom I have so much respect and admiration for as cricketers and people," she said.

"It was a huge surprise when I was asked about the role when we were away in Queensland but I'll do everything I can to get the best out of our team and I look forward to working with all our new exciting players and those players who have been based in Hobart long-term."

"I thought Sasha did an exceptional job last year and her all-round game continues to develop so I have no doubt she will play a big role in the Hurricanes team for years to come.

The Hurricanes have two more practice matches this weekend before taking on the Stars from 2pm this Saturday and Sunday, the season's opening weekend. Both matches will be on livestream on Kayo Sports and cricket.com.au.
