Hobart Hurricanes hitting form in time for clutch match against Sydney Sixers at North Sydney Oval

The Hobart Hurricanes are in high spirits after climbing to 2nd place on the WBBL ladder off the back of a comfortable eight-wicket win over the Brisbane Heat.

Now sitting just two points behind the Sydney Sixers, the ‘Canes will take plenty of confidence into their upcoming match against the ladder leaders.

Monday night’s match-winner Hayley Matthews today spoke to local media and was thrilled with both the team’s performance and her efforts with the ball, expressing confidence in the team’s ability to break out of a tight competition ladder gather momentum heading into the business end of the season.

“We had a really good game, so that was helpful in getting us higher up the table and having a better chance in qualifying for the finals,” Matthews said.

“I don’t think we had a terrible game against the Heat in our first match. I think the Heat batted really well in their innings and unfortunately we weren’t able to chase it down.

“I guess yesterday we looked at what we could do better and looked to back our skills, what we’d been practicing in the nets previously and executed really well in the end.

“It would be really good if we could just carry some confidence and carry some form into the next game and hopefully get another win on the board to secure a spot for us in the finals.”

Matthews was superb last night in the Hurricanes win, taking best bowling figures of 5-19 as well as a stunning run and dive catch which set the tone early in the field.

“I think [5-19 from 3.3 overs] are my best figures actually, so I’m pretty happy with that performance and looking forward to taking that into the next few games and hopefully it helps to build my confidence.”

The WBBL Hobart Hurricanes play the Sydney Sixers on Friday afternoon at North Sydney Oval with the match live and free on the Rebel WBBL Facebook page and cricket.com.au.
