The first of the Hobart Hurricanes’ WBBL signings have been locked in, with Emma Thompson and Erin Fazackerley both re-signed for WBBL|03.
A middle order batter, Thompson played 13 matches last season and said she was excited to be playing for the Hurricanes again.
“Our team possesses a really nice atmosphere that’s all inclusive and it’s a good group of girls to be a part of,” she said.
“Being in a smaller city you get greater opportunity. In the bigger cities, you’re competing with national players and sometimes they can overshadow your up-and-coming players.”
Fazackerley is a familiar surname in Tasmanian cricket circles with Erin niece to Kim Fazackerley, who was the first Tasmanian female to play for Australia.
“My main goal is to get into the team. I was in the squad last year but didn’t get into the XI to play a game so that will be my aim for this season,” she said.
Although she enjoys both batting and bowling, Fazackerley said her priority over the off-season was to work on her bowling.
“I like to do both, but my primary focus now is to try and bowl faster and more consistently,” she said.
More WBBL signings will be announced in the coming weeks.
