A further two signings for the Hurricanes have been confirmed this morning, with Simon Milenko returning for BBL|07 and Brooke Hepburn re-signing for WBBL|03.
Milenko said changes within the Hurricanes’ coaching ranks and administration mean the team is feeling optimistic about the prospect of vying for silverware.
"There have certainly been some changes around the Hurricanes setup with a new coach, new CEO and a new group of players,” he said.
“I'm excited to see where we can go with these changes and extremely hopeful the playing group can go all the way to our first BBL trophy.”
Milenko also said he was looking forward to working with newly appointed head coach Gary Kirsten.
"It's exciting to have someone of Gary's pedigree on board to lead the Hurricanes. He's very optimistic about the team having success and no doubt he'll bring a fresh outlook to the way we approach T20 cricket.”
Hepburn was a key component of the Hurricanes bowling stocks in WBBL|03, taking 11 wickets in 14 matches.
Her economy rate was also important, going at just 6.06 runs per over – the second lowest of all the Hurricanes’ bowlers.
"Last season was a mixed bag. We had some really thrilling wins both at home and away but overall I think we struggled to find our consistency in the tournament which ultimately led to us bowing out in the semi finals,” Hepburn said.
"This year our sights will definitely be set on taking out the tournament. We know what to expect from WBBL now - you need to be performing at your best in every match to give the team the chance to make it to the finals."
Originally from Launceston, Hepburn is excited to be taking Big Bash cricket back to the north of Tasmania again this season.
"We are extremely lucky for the support we receive from all of our fans and supporters across Tasmania,” she said.
“I think it's really exciting that we can take the BBL and WBBL brands to the north of the state this year and I'm really looking forward to playing in front of my home town crowd again."
