The Hobart Hurricanes has named its BBL leaders for the upcoming season.
George Bailey has recommitted to the team and has been appointed captain for BBL|07, while Tim Paine has also re-signed and will be the vice-captain.
Bailey said he was honored to be taking on the captaincy again this season, saying he had high hopes for the team’s on-field performances.
“I’m really excited about this opportunity, it’s been a couple of years since I’ve had the captaincy,” he said.
“There’s been a few changes – new coach, new CEO, so there’ll be a different feel around the group.
“It’s the one tournament Tasmania hasn’t won yet so I’m looking forward to rectifying that.”
Bailey also said he was excited to playing one of the Hurricanes’ home games in Launceston this season.
“It’s a beautiful surface for cricket and we’re looking forward to seeing how the Launceston crowd turns out and hopefully they get behind the Hurricanes.”
Bailey was a standout performer for the Hurricanes with the bat last season, scoring a team-high 249 runs (three half centuries) at an average of 49.40.
Paine was also an excellent contributor to the side in BBL|06, compiling 227 runs through 8 matches and providing excellent service behind the stumps with nine dismissals.
Currently touring Pakistan with an ICC T20 World XI, Paine said he was looking forward to a positive season in purple with the Hurricanes.
“I’m really excited by the opportunity to work with George as vice-captain this season. I think our leadership styles will work well together,” he said.
“We’ve obviously both been with the Hurricanes for some time now and it’s great to have a couple of Tasmanians leading the side.
“Hopefully with the squad we’re putting together we can be a really competitive side in BBL07 and get back to playing in the finals.”
The Hurricanes will be announcing new signings for both BBL and WBBL sides in the coming weeks.
