The Hobart Hurricanes are excited to announce that former Pakistan Captain Shoaib Malik has signed with the Hurricanes for BBL|03.
Malik is arguably the biggest signing in the club’s short history and will be a fantastic addition to an already strong Hurricanes squad.
Hurricanes Coach Damian Wright says the Hurricanes members will be very excited with the signing of Shoaib.
“He is a quality player with a quality T20 record and his performances in the Caribbean Premier League suggest he’s in red hot form right now” Wright said.
31 year old Malik, was the leading run scorer of the inaugural Caribbean Premier League in August this year amassing 272 runs in 8 matches. Malik finished the competition with a strike rate of 112.86 and a highest score of 78 for the Barbados Tridents.
“He’s an exciting player, a fast paced batsman who will likely bat in our middle order and he’ll add another option to our bowling stocks as well” Wright said of Malik who is currently ranked 25 in the ICC’s Reliance T20 World Rankings for all-rounders.
Malik debuted in international cricket as an 18 year old and has since played 32 Tests, 216 ODI’s and 53 T20I’s for Pakistan.
The 31 year old has played in two ICC T20 World Cup finals, captaining Pakistan the 2007 when his side finished runners-up and tasting victory in 2009 when he guided his side home against Sri Lanka with an unbeaten 24.
He has proven himself as a quality T20 player having played 134 career matches in this format, averaging 39.03 with the bat and 21.5 with the ball.
“Those are impressive stats for someone who has played so many games in a format where you often have to place little value on your wicket in search of quick runs at the end of an innings” said Wright.
The Hurricanes will again be looking to sell out Blundstone Arena as they strive for on-field success this year. Memberships have been selling fast and tickets will go on sale in November.
With three out of four home matches being in the afternoon creating the perfect scenario for families, the Hurricanes are planning to provide the ultimate party atmosphere at Blundstone Arena for BBL|03.
The Hurricanes now have just one spot remaining on one of the strongest lists in the BBL competition.
