HURRICANES INDIGENOUS PROGRAM

The Hurricanes Indigenous program is another pathway for Indigenous cricketers to develop in Tasmania.

The Hobart Hurricanes are proud to announce the introduction of an Indigenous program this season which will provide even greater opportunities for Indigenous cricketers in Tasmania.

Prospective players are encouraged to attend the upcoming trials and training session on September 10 in Launceston.

Chief Executive Nick Cummins said Indigenous players would be exposed to a high-performance environment with the hope of representing the Hurricanes in the future.

“The introduction of this initiative gives the cream of our indigenous talent the opportunity to wear the purple in the newest format of the game,” he said.

“It’s a chance for an aspiring indigenous cricketer to get noticed ahead of the Championships.”

Tasmanian Premier Will Hodgman has also voiced his support for the initiative.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for Tasmanian Aboriginal players to train and play at the highest level, and I congratulate the Hobart Hurricanes on their initiative," he said.

“I look forward to seeing more indigenous players progressing through the system, and being part of Tassie's great cricket story.”
